Erasmus is the European Commission's leading educational exchange programme for higher education. It was introduced with the aim of increasing student mobility within Europe and now operates across 33 countries and involves over 4,000 Higher Education Institutions.
Erasmus grants are intended to offset the additional costs of mobility, such as travel costs and a higher cost of living in the host country.
Grants are not intended to cover the full costs of study abroad.
In order to be eligible for an Erasmus Student Mobility Grant, you must:
European Union Member States:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. This includes Canary Islands, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, Azores, Madeira
EFTA - EEA States:
Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway
Candidate Countries:
Turkey, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Once you have arranged your placement, the Study Abroad Office will inform the Student Funding Office at King's. Provided applicants meet all the criteria for mobility funding, you will be contacted via your King's email account in November.
All communication about your grant will be made via your King's email account and your contact email address, so please ensure you check both regularly.
You will be sent a Student Mobility Agreement to complete and return. Once this has been received, payment of your grant will be arranged. Payment will be made in GBP by BACS transfer to your UK bank account. You will be asked to provide your bank details online via OneSpace (the King's student portal) nearer the time.
Students will receive a two instalments for each mobility - the first worth 70% and the second worth 30% (payable once the Final Student Report has been submitted).
Fees will be due of £1,350. Eligible students will be able to apply for a tuition fee loan of up to £1,350. You do not pay any tuition fees to the university you are visiting.
During your Erasmus study, you will continue to receive any maintenance grant or student loan to which you are entitled.
If you are interested in the Erasmus programme, you are advised to discuss the choices and procedures with your tutor, and the Study Abroad Office. It is essential that you register your interest with your tutor at the start of the academic year in order to be put forward for a Student Mobility Grant. For more details on how to apply to the scheme please visit King's Study Abroad webpages.
