18 October 21st century database of traditional Chinese medicine released
A comprehensive database developed by King’s College London researchers that features the chemical components found in traditional Chinese medicines has been released to market this month, allowing researchers to explore age-old remedies in the search for tomorrow’s new drugs.

23 September King's awards celebrated
The 2011 King's Awards reception took place on 21 September. For the fifth year, members of the College community gathered to celebrate the achievements of staff, students and alumni. The ‘Innovation and impact’ award was presented to Professor Phil Chowienczyk. Earlier this year Professor Chowienczyk led a research team in the development of a new technology that was then incorporated into a revolutionary new device by Centron Diagnositcs.

To celebrate GSK’s scientific contribution to the London 2012 Games, British Olympic Gold medallist Rebecca Romero has unveiled the biggest 2012 logo on the side of GSK’s headquarters in London.

31 August Coral could be used to create sunscreens
Researchers at King’s College London have discovered how coral produces natural sunscreen compounds to protect itself from damaging UV rays, leading scientists to believe these compounds could form the basis of a new type of sunscreen for humans.

09 March Funding to expand intellectual property
King's College London and the Universities of Glasgow and Bristol have won funding from the Intellectual Property Office to pioneer easy access to their intellectual assets.
