On Wednesday 31st January, the Entrepreneurship Institute's Women Entrepreneurs Network (WEN) set off on an afternoon tour, visiting innovative spaces close to King's. WEN members had the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship first-hand by connecting to real-world businesses, hearing from founders and experts, and networking with others in the WEN community.

Stop 1: Makerversity, Somerset House

For the first stop, WEN members met the Makerversity team at Somerset House - a community space home to a diverse range of innovators, from graduates developing ideas and early-stage startups, to fully fledged businesses. Makerversity offer access to a range of co-working spaces, equipment and workshops including a Photography and Podcast Studio and an Engineering Workshop.

After an insightful tour of their creative spaces, WEN members had the chance to meet two women founders who are part of the Makerversity community:

  • Sri, Mat Zero - providing safe and sustainable heating for refugees and disaster relief via a three part modular product consisting of a heated mat, an Energy Hub and solar panels.
  • Imriel, Content is Queen - an award-winning full-service podcast agency and community amplifying minority voices.

Stop 2: Coutts Bank & NatWest Enterprise teams

For stop two, WEN members interacted with a panel of experts from Coutts and NatWest Enterprise teams. They explored how banks can support entrepreneurs, including:

  • Empowering businesses to grow via their NatWest Accelerator Hubs
  • Access to a network of influential contacts to help take businesses to the next stage.
  • Bespoke mortgages
  • Expert financial planning
  • Business Exits

It was so exciting to pilot the first ever WEN Mini-Venture Crawl. Having the opportunity to explore local innovation spaces with the WEN community opened up new disruptive avenues to inspire them and their entrepreneurial ideas."
