We are a network that brings together scholars and students across King’s. Our research and teaching examine the influence of gender relations, promotes feminist analysis, and challenges patriarchal assumptions and structures across departments and institutes at King’s. The Gender Studies Network was founded in 2015 by Professor Jelke Boesten and Dr. Susan Martin and has grown since thanks to the dedication and engagement of members across King’s. Today, through the diverse research and teaching portfolios among network members, we share a commitment to advancing gender equity and scholarship on gender studies and broader feminisms.

The Gender Studies Network (GSN) offers many events and activities for members. We also host a mailing list which publicises relevant events and provides a platform for discussion about gender in research and teaching. All members of King’s who engage with gender studies in their research and teaching – or those who would like to learn more – are welcome to join. To subscribe, sign in with your King’s credentials here, and choose the Gender Studies mailing list to sign up.

Staff and students are welcome to join the Gender Studies Network Reading Group. Please see the activities tab below for upcoming dates and themes. To receive the reading for each session, please contact Daniela Horta Cortes.

The Gender Studies Network is also home to the online publication and collective Feminist Perspectives. Feminist Perspectives’ purpose is to put forward work that studies, analyses and reflects on gendered and racialised politics and, as a publication, is ideologically committed to transforming those politics through research and art. To learn more about this project, read recent works, and submit your own blog contribution, see the Feminist Perspectives page.

We are happy to announce that we will be running the Gender Studies Network PhD Seminar Series in 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative is organized by PhD students at the faculty level who are working on gender issues. The aim of the seminar series is to provide space for PhD students working on gender issues to present their work in friendly and safe environment. It is also an opportunity to meet researchers working on related topics, and to receive and give feedback. Please see the activities tab below for upcoming session dates. To join the series and receive the Teams link please contact organizer Areej Abuqudairi.

In April 2026, we will be hosting a two-day interdisciplinary conference on the politics of sex, both contemporary and future. Please be sure to sign up for the GSN mailing list and watch this space to receive further information.

Everyone in the King’s community is welcome to join our events and series. Please contact the Gender Studies Network co-convenors, Saskia Zielińska and Jennifer Langill if you would like to discuss additional opportunities to expand the discussion on gender studies and feminist perspectives in research, teaching, and outreach at King’s.
