Entry requirements

English language entry requirements

To follow our programmes successfully, you must have a good command of English and be able to apply this in an academic environment. Therefore, you will usually be required to provide certificated proof of your competence in English before starting your studies. This requirement may be waived, but only if the College is satisfied that your previous academic record clearly demonstrates your ability to study and be examined in the English language.

The English Language Centre offers a number of programmes to help students reach their required language and skills level for entry onto our graduate programmes. Pre-masters programmes available include the two year International Master's programmes, which guarantee conditional offers for your chosen master's, and the general pre-masters (which does not offer this progression but can still be used to satisfy our English language requirements). Summer pre-sessional programmes are also available for those who hold conditional degree offers but whose English is not yet at the required level. These programmes have different English language entry requirements and the programmes available include:

There are in-sessional and study skills courses designed to support you in your studies and help you improve your English language and academic skills once you are at King's. Further details are at English Language Centre website or email elc@kcl.ac.uk.

If you are considering enrolling on a pre-sessional programme at another institution, please check with us that this will meet our entry requirements. You can contact us through the myApplication portal.
