Using our services

Your Library PIN

All registered library users have a library barcode and a four-digit PIN. This provides access to your library record via the Library catalogue and allows you to use the self-service kiosks and laptop cabinets.

 

If you wish to change your PIN you may reset it online by following the instructions below. You can also retrieve or change it at any Library Enquiry Desk or by emailing libraryservices@kcl.ac.uk from your King's College London email account.

 

How to reset your Library PIN

There are two self-service methods of resetting your Library PIN.  The right one for you depends on whether your King’s ID (e.g. K1234567) is included in your Library record or not.  All students and some staff have this information in their record. Most staff and NHS staff will need to use the second method to reset their PIN.  


For security reasons please do not use a number like 1234 that is easy to guess.

1 Changing your Library PIN using your King’s ID

Go to the  Library catalogue   and click on Log in near the top of the page.

Enter your King’s username (e.g. K1234567) and password

Click on My account, then Reset Library PIN

Input your new PIN in the box on the screen (4 numerals only)

Your new PIN will start working immediately

After changing your PIN remember to log out especially if using a public computer

 

2 Changing your Library PIN using the number on your King's ID card

Go to the Library catalogue and click on Reset Library PIN near the top of the page.

Enter the number on your ID card (including King’s ID cards belonging to NHS library members)

Note: for security there is a CAPTCHA box – please see note below

You will receive an email (almost immediately) sent to your registered address with a one-time link you can use to reset your PIN

If you don’t receive an email please go to any of the King’s Libraries with your King’s ID card and ask staff to check the email address in your Library record.  Staff will be able to change your PIN at the same time.

 

3 If you are unable to use either of the above methods

You can retrieve and/or change your Library PIN at any Library Enquiry Desk. You can also request it by emailing libraryservices@kcl.ac.uk from your King's email account (or the email address in your Library record for NHS staff and others without a King’s email address)

 

Note on using CAPTCHA

A CAPTCHA is a program that protects websites against bots by generating and grading tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. For example, humans can read distorted text as the one shown below, but current computer programs cannot.

Read the distorted text (see below) then type it into the box.

If you have trouble reading the distorted text you can request a new sample by clicking the  left hand symbol.
