Description

King's College London is happy to announce its Annual Postgraduate Research History conference in collaboration with the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP) funding programme. The conference is meant to emphasise the importance of the LAHP scholarship programme, as well as, more broadly, of the University of London as a research community. It is also designed as a friendly environment, in which PhD students can present their work and receive useful feedback from their peers.

The conference will address the theme of ‘conflict’. Conflict can take myriad forms: it is the basis for international wars and national revolutions; it is enacted by processes of colonisation and decolonisation, as well as by competing local and national identities; it is at the core of gender relations, of racial policies and of debates over human rights; finally, it is central to such intellectual debates as the nature of man in society and the role of man in the capitalist world. Conflicts divide, but also unite. Conflicts can destroy what is old, but also create something new. Conflicts impact and shape people’s identity, how they relate to others, to the world around them and to themselves. And most importantly, conflicts can divide, but can also be bridged. Papers will address the theme of 'conflict' in its broadest sense, from all periods of history and all geographical areas.
