The King's Russia Institute is pleased to invite you a seminar on:

The Turkish Winter & the Russian Spring: Similarities in Historical Context

with 
Ayse Zarakol University of Cambridge

Ayse Zarakol is University Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Cambridge. Her work focuses on problem of modernity and sovereignty, rising and declining powers, and Turkey politics in comparative perspective, particularly with Russia. In this seminar, she will discuss developments in Turkey leading up to the July 2016 putsch and its authoritarian aftermath. Understanding of Erdogan's new regime is gained through historical and contemporary comparisons to Russia, with an eye to the broader implications for the future of democracy globally.
