The talent, commitment and creativity of our people are central to King’s success. Our colleagues have told us that they value King’s collaborative and collegial culture, and as a university we are united by a shared purpose and a commitment to education, research and service to society. We want King’s to remain a place where people feel valued, supported and able to make their best contribution – where colleagues at every career stage can grow, lead and excel.
Over the next five years, we will strengthen this further. We want King’s to continue to be known as a place where talented people choose to work, and where they build fulfilling, impactful careers. This means investing in academic excellence and career development, enabling leadership at all levels and creating clearer pathways for progression. We will also focus on simplifying policies, reducing bureaucracy and improving processes that detract from core activities, improving satisfaction and productivity.
Our people are essential to delivering this strategy. By valuing and supporting our staff, we create the conditions in which excellence can thrive across the university.
Our objectives
1. Support every colleague to develop and progress
Introducing a new career framework for Professional Services staff that sets out clear pathways for progression and the expectations associated with each stage. We will broaden opportunities for learning and development for all colleagues, with targeted support for academic leaders, and build future capability by developing AI literacy across the university alongside deeper technical expertise where it is needed most.
2. Refine our internal policies, procedures and ways of working
Ensuring they are clear, consistent, effective and provide the flexibility to evolve and support our ambitions.
3. Build on our strengths in leadership, values and culture
Refreshing our Values so they reflect the university we want to be and embedding them in everyday practice. We will continue to champion equality, diversity and inclusion, uphold freedom of speech within the law and academic freedom, and invest in leadership development so colleagues at every level feel equipped to lead with clarity, confidence and integrity.
