Due to the current events relating to novel coronavirus (COVID-19), King’s College London is following government advice and will no longer hold a training session or recruit new invigilators/examination assistants for the foreseeable future. When do we need invigilators?

The Examinations Office employs invigilators to support the examination process throughout the year. Examinations can be organised by our office as well as by other departments within the university. Please note that our main examination periods are in January, May/June and August and we require a large number of invigilators during these periods. Where do we need invigilators?

Examinations are held at our campuses (Waterloo, Strand, Guy’s, Denmark Hill and St Thomas’ Hospital) as well as at external examination venues.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for enthusiastic people who can demonstrate common sense, accuracy, attention to detail, and are willing to provide the best examination experience possible for students. You must be reliable, punctual, have a flexible attitude to work and possess good communication skills.

Duties include setting up examination rooms, checking attendance, observing, collecting scripts, and liaising with candidates and examination staff to resolve queries.

Can current KCL students apply?

This job is not open to undergraduate students, however, postgraduate students are encouraged to apply.

Please note that any postgraduate students who are due to sit an examination during the main examination periods (January, May/June and August) will be permitted to invigilate only after they have sat any scheduled examinations.

What is the rate of pay?

The rate of pay is £10.55 per hour, with an additional £1.27 holiday pay per hour. Please note that any breaks (including lunch breaks) will not be paid.

When should I apply?

Our next recruitment period will be in January 2020, so if you are interested in invigilating at King's College London, please submit your application to us between 1 January and 31 January 2020.

How do I apply?

Step 1. Download and complete the Invigilator Screening Questions 2020

Step 2. Email your completed form to  between 1 January and 31 January 2020.

Step 3. Register with King’s Talent Bank online and complete their compliance check

Step 4. Short-listed applicants will be contacted by 14 February 2020. They will be invited to attend a compulsory training session after which the final selection will be made. Please note that this training session is part of the recruitment process and you will therefore not be compensated for your time.

Please note that due to the large number of applications we receive, we are only able to reply to successful applicants. Therefore, if you have not heard back from us by 14 February 2020, your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
