My thesis

How do professionals use graphic symbols in primary inclusive schools (provisional title)
The use of graphic symbols in primary schools is one outcome from signing the Salamanca Declaration (UNESCO, 1994) where governments committed themselves to the inclusion of students with disabilities into mainstream schools. The recent use of graphic symbols in mainstream schools is one outcome of the new national policies.
The aim of this study is to compile an ethnography of graphic symbol use in inclusive primary schools, so this area can be addressed by the research community;thus the new pedagogical approaches can be demonstrated in proven ways of working. My aim is to collect data from ten schools: seven schools in England and three schools in Cyprus.
