This unique event springs from the simple idea of juxtaposing two religious musical masterpieces and allowing them to resonate in the same space. One of these is Christian: Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir, from the early twentieth century. The other is Islamic: Abdülbaki Nasir Dede's Acem Buselik Ayin-i Serif (Ayin), from the early eighteenth. One, Swiss, emerging from a Calvinist background. The other Ottoman Turkish, emerging from a Mevlevi background. The two works have been chosen for their beauty, and the intuition that they will resonate.
The Choir of King's College London, under the leadership of Joseph Fort, comes together this evening with Meydan Musiki, under the leadership of Harun Korkmaz, and in collaboration with Martin Stokes.
