The inaugural Peter N Davies Memorial Lecture

The British Shipbuilding industry was rather unique in that it went from private control to nationalisation and back to private control in little over a decade from July 1977.

This talk will discuss a paper by Professor Hugh Murphy, of the University of Glasgow, which explores both the context to the very late nationalisation of the industry and the impact of nationalisation and subsequent re-privatisation, before concluding whether or not either were successful.
