Linda Hume

This webinar will be led by Linda Hume (RNLD, MSc, FHEA) from the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, who is also a training consultant and coach.

Capable environments is a systematic, theoretically-driven approach, which is focused on the quality of support design and provision for people with intellectual disabilities. The use of such a framework promotes the provision of effective personalised supports, which is a foundation for positive behaviour support.

This presentation will illustrate how it can be applied in multiple contexts and settings, to appraise support, develop proactive and reactive strategies. It can then be used as a method of evaluation and a framework for staff supervision and training. A framework of support must be developed in partnership along with a process of support to implement this such as practice leadership. Results show an increase in staff confidence, improvements to individuals’ quality of life and a reduction in the occurrence and severity of challenging behaviour and restrictive practices.
