The Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 21 is not only the first operational deployment of the Queen-Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier but an important statement of the British government’s ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region. Air and space power are on prominent show as the task group exercises its ships and aircraft with navies and air forces of a wide number of international partners.

At a significant point in the CSG21 deployment, just after the upcoming Pacific Future Forum which will be convened by the UK and hosted in the Republic of Korea, the Freeman Air and Space Institute will on 10 September host leading Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF) Commanders to discuss the impact of the task group’s deployment and the significance of its presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

We will be joined by Rear Admiral Martin Connell, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Aviation & Carrier Strike) and Rear Admiral Fleet Air Arm, and Air Vice-Marshal Al Marshall, Air Officer Commanding 1 Group, RAF. Our exciting ‘in conversation’ event will allow them to reflect on the CSG deployment and the future of maritime air power, providing combined Naval and Air perspectives, as well as what this means for the UK foreign policy with regard to the Indo-Pacific tilt.

The event will take place on Friday 10 September from 1pm. Please sign up here to attend this online event on Zoom.

There may be an opportunity for some audience members to attend the event in person at King’s College London, but that is to be confirmed given the Covid-19 situation.
