The Centre for European Law & the Transnational Law Institute would like to invite you to a seminar with Professor Jorge Contesse, Rutgers Law School, USA. He will be discussing 'Supremacy, Dialogue and Resistance: The Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Its Relationship with National Courts'.

Abstract:

Supremacy, dialogue and resistance are familiar concepts to scholars of national compliance with judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. In the past decade, these concepts have emerged in Latin America and the Caribbean in relation to decisions of the Inter-American Court and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. This presentation will discuss the Court's assertion of authority under the American Convention and how States resist inter-American human rights law
