The Changing Lives through Research photography exhibition at the Maudsley Hospital captures images of research from across the Trust.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust believe research is at the heart of better clinical care, and they are proud to be leading the way in developing treatments and improving people’s mental health.

There are many people involved in making that happen, and the Changing Lives through Research photography exhibition captures images of research from across the Trust – portraits of staff who become part of the Research Champion network, colleagues from the Joint Research and Development Office of the Trust and IoPPN, staff from the NIHR Maudsley BRC and representation across the workforce – clinical, academic, corporate, and beyond.

In this exhibition, you are invited to read short stories of what research at the Trust means to them – from making patients comfortable when taking part in studies, to how research skills can be a powerful tool in everyday practice.

Research can take many forms, and this exhibition aims to reveal some of the ways in which South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is having an impact on the lives of people now, and in the future.

A project led by the Research and Development team.

  • Photographer Ben McDade took all the photographs in February 2023. Thank you to all those who offered their time to be photographed and capture what research means at the Trust; and thanks to the Bethlem Gallery for their support with curating the exhibition.
  • The exhibition is on display from 1 December 2023 to Spring 2024. It is open daily from 8am to 6pm.
  • The exhibition will be on display in the ground floor corridor between the Maudsley main reception and Eileen Skellern House, at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill
