King’s Volunteering is teaming up with the MA Education & Society programme team in the School of Education, Communication and Society to host a Connecting with Charities webinar.

Joining this online event will be speakers from charities and community organisations working within the area of education. You will have the chance to hear about the charities' missions and how you can be part of their work.

 

Speakers

Mary Skelton – The Access Project

Mary Skelton is the Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator and part of The Volunteering Team with the education charity, The Access Project.

Mary will be sharing further information on their programme, the young people they support and how you could make a positive impact on a young person's future. Join us to learn more about becoming a Volunteer Tutor with The Access Project.

 

Ben Cuddon – ClimateEd

Ben Cuddon grew up in London. He studied History at Edinburgh University and was a Frank Knox Fellow at Harvard where he took an MA in Middle East Studies. He also has a PGCE from Cambridge University. He taught History and Sociology in two London schools (Ernest Bevin College and Archbishop Tenison's High School) before co-founding Climate Ed in 2018. He currently coordinates the Climate Ed programme in schools.

 

Olivia Prophet – Literacy Pirates

Olivia studied Classical Civilisation at the University of Leeds, specialising in epics, poetry and tragedy, which furthered her love of reading and storytelling. She currently works as the Senior Volunteer Coordinator for the Literacy Pirates, an educational charity that seeks to improve the literacy, confidence and perseverance of young people falling behind at school and who have fewer opportunities. Olivia is passionate about the power volunteering can have in connecting communities, helping individuals gain real world skills and making a difference. Her career has been guided by volunteering, as an active participant and vocally advocating for others to take part.

 

Shima Begum - Governors for Schools

I am the Partnerships Manager at Governors for Schools, leading our work for North and East London regions. I joined the education charity in November 2021. I am passionate about increasing the educational outcomes for our young people and my career has centred around the education field and supporting others. At governors for schools, one of my key roles as Partnerships Manager involves matching volunteers based on their skills and experience, so that each Board has the right people around the table and our volunteer can have the most Impact.
