Creating an Inclusive Curriculum and Classroom interactive workshop

Join us for a School of Security Studies sponsored interactive workshop where we reflect upon our own teaching and learning practices and work collaboratively on ways in which we can move to foster greater inclusivity in our design and delivery of modules.

Decolonising Learning and Teaching: Rationales, Strategies and Reflections

27 November from 13:00 - 14.30pm in  K6.07

Led by Dr Meera Sabaratnam, Senior Lecturer at SOAS and leader in “Decolonising SOAS”. This workshop is a space to reflect upon how we teach inclusively in a political climate that is encouraging us to decolonise, diversify, and be more inclusive to our BAME/working class/female/non-binary/trans/disabled students. We will  use this space to collectively foster an intersectional approach to inclusive teaching and learning that takes into account the diverse needs of our student body and addresses the colonial legacies that continue to shape how we teach and learn about war, global (in)securities, and international relations.  Some general themes/questions we will discuss are:

  1. What does it mean to diversify/decolonise our teaching?
  2. How do we foster an inclusive classroom where students feel empowered, in line with the college’s strategic vision?
