In his workshop for the Garden of Emotions, artist Alex De Little will invite you to experience a new approach to listening, Deep Listening which brings what is sensed presently (both through the ear and the whole body) into relation with your emotional experience - as the event unfolds, you'll have opportunities to record and discuss your experiences.

The workshop will begin with a series of activities and exercises designed to bring participants into their bodies and create a basis for listening practices that follow. A series of specially-created ‘sonic meditations’ will explore the possibility of listening as a mode of coming into contact with emotional states. Periods of listening will be interspersed with opportunities for recording and discussing what emerges.

“Deep Listening, as developed by Pauline Oliveros, explores the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary, selective nature of listening. It cultivates a heightened awareness of the sonic environment, both external and internal, and promotes experimentation, improvisation, collaboration, playfulness, and other creative skills vital to personal and community growth.” – Institute for Deep Listening, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
