Denmark Hill Community Gardening opening - 22 August 2024

Join the Denmark Hill Technical Network on the Thursday 22 August for the grand opening of the Denmark Hill Community Garden!

The day will begin at 10.00am with a ribbon cutting ceremony and opening thanks, followed by a free breakfast and lunch. If you would like to attend but have any concerns regarding food allergens or intolerances, please email megan.2.williams@kcl.ac.uk.

Throughout the day we are hosting several wellbeing/sustainability themed workshops. 

This includes the Bee, Bird or Bug hotel making workshop and clay pinch pot making workshop both of which requires registration. To register attendance for the wellbeing/sustainability themed workshops, people should fill in the following Microsoft Form. The rest of the day is drop-in and as your calendar allows.

Open ceremony, including ribbon cutting

Expect high levels of noise and lots of people gathered.

10.30 – 11.00

Free breakfast

Food and drink allergens may be present: gluten, nuts, dairy, etc., minimal scents and flavours present.

11.00 – 12.00

Bee, Bird or Bug hotel making

Requires booking

Requires a booking to attend

There will be roughly 10 people and low levels of noise.

The workshop may require some dexterity and hand mobility.

12.00 – 13.00

Low sensory time

(optional: seed planting)

Except small amount of people, low levels of noise.

Optional: seed planting may require some dexterity; people can use small tools or hands to move soil + seeds.

13.00 – 14.00

Free lunch

Food and drink allergens may be present: meat, gluten, nuts, dairy, etc., impactful scents and flavors present.

Except a large amount of people, may be noisy.

14.00 – 15.00

Clay pinch pot making

Requires booking

Requires a booking to attend

There will be roughly 10 people and low levels of noise.

The workshop may require some dexterity, hand mobility, and people will have to handle clay.

15.00 – 16.00

Wall stencilling and brick decorating

Open to all + those who have brought a brick

Except a moderate amount of people, likely to be noisy.

There will be strong scents via spray paints and marker pens.

The activity will require some standing and maybe stretching.

This event is open to all King’s staff, students and contract workers. All faculties, disciplines, services are encouraged to attend.

Sounds great! But… where is the community garden?

The Community Garden is behind the Weston Education Centre in Denmark Hill Campus, SE5 9RJ. Walk through the carpark to the right of the WEC building and to your left will be a bright, yellow gate and a sign that reads ‘Secret Garden’ this is the Community Garden and where the event will take place.
