ECS welcomes Dr Niall Curry from Manchester Metropolitan University for the 2026 Annual Lecture.
The topic of the lecture will be: Critical research perspectives at the intersection of (Gen)AI and education
Biography
Dr Niall Curry is a Reader in Languages and Linguistics and UKRI Metascience AI Fellow within the School of English. He researches and teaches on a range of topics in Applied Linguistics, spanning artificial intelligence, contrastive linguistics, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, English-medium instruction, metadiscourse, parascientific, scientific, and academic communication, second language acquisition, systemic functional linguistics, TESOL, and translation. He is also co-lead of the Manchester Centre for Research in Linguistics.
He is Co-Editor of the Routledge Applied Corpus Linguistics and Routledge Corpus Linguistics Guides book series, Section Editor of the Elsevier Encyclopaedia of Language and Linguistics, Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Associate Fellow of the Global China Academy, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of the IVACS Advisory Board, and a Géras International Correspondent.
