Prof. Charlotte Hempel will present the 2021 Ethel M. Wood lecture with a paper entitled 'A Manly Swot: Ezra's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats’. Originally, Prof. Hempel was due to deliver her lecture last year, but that had to be cancelled due to the closures in response to the CoViD pandemic.
Prof. Hempel is Prof. of Hebrew Bible and Second Temple Judaism at the University of Birmingham, and a leading scholar of the Dead Sea Scrolls (Qumran). She has recently edited the T&T Clark Companion to the Dead Sea Scrolls. She has published many papers and books on the Dead Sea Scrolls and edited Dead Sea Discoveries, a leading journal in Qumran studies.
