Super Sense Me

Live event utilising sensor technology to investigate the personal impact of air pollution.

King's is at the forefront of finding solutions to air pollution in London through the work of the Environmental Research Group, part of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. The ERG is a leading provider of air quality information and research in the UK.

In this one hour session, Dr Benjamin Barratt, Lecturer in Chinese Environment will demonstrate how sensor technology can be used to assess the personal impact of air pollution. During the event, an audience member will be kitted out with a range of personal sensors before being sent out into the Waterloo areas with a member of the ERG and a camera. The roaming team will take measurements and periodically report back to the room using video streaming, highlighting indoor and outdoor pollution hotspots with the sensors. An experiment will also be carried out with respiratory masks to investigate the finer properties of dust from the London Underground.
