Join Professor Aaron Baker from The University of Texas at Austin for a Force Talk entitled "Biophysical rejuvenation of stem cells for enhancing vascular regeneration".

Abstract:

Stem cell therapies hold immense promise for tackling diseases that currently lack effective treatment options. However, there remain many key barriers to creating effective stem cell therapies and applying them in the context of clinical care. This seminar will focus on our recent efforts to enhance stem cell therapies by leveraging biophysical forces to augment their effectiveness in addressing vascular disease and to rejuvenate their properties during aging and cell culture expansion. The presentation will showcase recent advancements using mechanical conditioning to bolster the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells, particularly in the context of rejuvenating stem cells from older patients. Additionally, we will discuss the implications of our findings on our understanding of the interaction of mechanical forces with chromatin and DNA damage repair mechanisms. Finally, we will discuss potential strategies to translate our findings into clinical application.
