A ‘show and share’ introduction to Africa and diaspora-related material in the KCL Archives.

Please Note: This is a drop-in session with a maximum of 20 people able to access the Archives at any one time.  All attendees will be invited to share their own responses to the material, some of which can be very challenging.

This event is part of the African Leadership Centre's Africa Week 2024 celebrations taking place 4-8 March 2024.

About the Event

Archives are invaluable for learning about the past and for informing the present, but it is important to remember that they are usually the voices and opinions of the powerholders. We can also learn from the gaps and the silences, and the misrepresentation of peoples, movements and communities.

Following on from our very successful Local Contexts symposium last year, we will be revisiting parts of our collection and inviting visitors to share their responses, opinions and knowledge to help us contextualise the historic records and make the hidden stories more discoverable.

Archive staff and academics will introduce material from both the KCL Archives and the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives in what we hope will be a lively and informative discussion.
