Heritage Language Syntax 7

HLS 7 will take place at King's College London on 15–16 December 2026. As part of the broader Heritage Language Syntax (HLS) workshop series, the conference provides a platform dedicated to the study of heritage and minority language syntax. HLS brings together researchers interested in how heritage languages contribute to our understanding of syntactic representations, acquisition, processing, and change in contact situations, with particular emphasis on the implications of heritage language research for syntactic theory.
Call for Papers
We invite abstracts for oral presentations on all aspects of heritage language syntax. We particularly welcome work that advances our theoretical understanding of how syntax is represented, acquired, processed, and maintained in heritage languages.
We are especially interested in work examining individual differences and the role of environmental factors insofar as these contribute to explaining heritage language syntax and syntactic processing. We explicitly encourage submissions drawing on a wide range of populations and approaches, including studies of child and adult heritage speakers, both typical and atypical development, and bi- and trilingual contexts. We also welcome work employing offline and online methodologies, as well as theoretical, conceptual, and epistemological contributions to heritage language research.
