Building your public profile and finding ways to achieve impact from your research is becoming more and more important. Public engagement can help you to connect with policymakers and practitioners, facilitate academic networking, access more funding opportunities and more.

The School of Security Studies is home to one of the biggest cohorts of subject matter experts in conflict, security, and international relations. Given our reputation and large pool of experts, we receive numerous media inquiries on a daily basis – which presents an opportunity for all our researchers from PhD to professor. There are also numerous other ways to boost public engagement in your research alongside media.

In this workshop Lizzie Ellen, the School of Security Studies Communications Manager, is joined by Dr Andreas Krieg, Senior Lecturer, Defence Studies Communications Lead as well as highly experienced media commentator, to share how you can build your public profile to boost engagement in your research. They will outline the benefits of public engagement, approaches to landing media opportunities to share your expertise as well as tips on preparing for media, as well as how the Communications Team can support you to develop podcasts, comment pieces, news stories and more.
