Title talk:

Innovating Heart Failure Care: Ultrasound Imaging, Personalised Therapy, and Pathway Transformation

Abstract:

Heart failure remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, yet diagnosis and treatment are often delayed by systemic bottlenecks. This seminar will explore how cutting-edge approaches; AI-enabled echocardiography, personalised device programming, and integrated care pathways, are reshaping prevention and management strategies. Drawing on evidence from landmark imaging trials (Nature Medicine), national datasets, and emerging AI technologies, we will discuss innovations that accelerate diagnosis, optimise therapy, and reduce inequalities in access to care.

Biography:

Maria is a Clinical Lecturer with a BRC postdoctoral fellowship, and Honorary Cardiac Scientist at the University of Leeds & Leeds Teaching Hospitals, having also held a NIHR doctoral fellowship and clinical lectureship in succession. She is specialised in both cardiac ultrasound and cardiac device management, investigating prevention and early identification of heart failure, optimised patient pathways, and personalised therapies. She also leads the Heart Failure and Device service at Leeds and is chair of the British Society of Echocardiography Research committee and a BSE Trustee.
