The project for the identification of Argentine soldiers fallen in the Falklands/Malvinas War.

35 years after the end of the Falklands-Malvinas War, Argentina and the UK signed an agreement entrusting the International Committee of the Red Cross to undertake the forensic identification of Argentine soldiers who had fallen in the islands and remained unknown.

Geoffrey Cardozo, former British Army Colonel, and Julio Aro, Argentine ex-conscript soldier, were both involved in the identification project, which relied on the expertise of a forensics team from the ICRC and the 'Equipo Argentino de Antropologia Forense'. They will speak about their memories of the conflict and the remarkable work they carried out post-war.

They will talk about the identification project, the importance of relations between former adversaries, post-conflict best practice and the adherence to international humanitarian law.

The event will be hosted by King's College London's Latin American Security Research Group.

Julio Aro: Argentine army conscript during the conflict, later created the ‘No Me Olvides’/’Forget Me Not’ foundation aiming to find and support the families of the Argentine soldiers who died and are buried in the islands’ cemetery.

Geoffrey Cardozo: British soldier who helped recover and bury the dead Argentine soldiers and later, with Julio Aro, helped to identify them and bring solace to their families.
