This event is open to King's College London and University of Westminster staff only.

King's College London, in collaboration with the University of Westminster, are hosting Lab Efficiency Training, intended to give technicians the knowledge and resources to improve laboratory efficiency. The training will be delivered by Lee Hibbett from the University of Nottingham. There is no cost associated with taking part in this training.

Time: 09.30-16:00 (lunch will be provided)

Location: Glass Suites, Franklin Wilkins Building, Waterloo Campus. (The Glass Meeting Rooms are located opposite the B5 Auditorium in Franklin Wilkins Building.)

Prior to attending training, please answer the questionnaire that will be included in your confirmation email. This is so we can assess your current knowledge around sustainability in the lab. This is purely to ensure you have a baseline knowledge around this subject, and will be sent some resources to review prior to the training if any gaps are highlighted.

About the Training

The Laboratory Efficiency Training Programme gives technicians the knowledge and resources to improve laboratory efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of wet laboratories.

Developed and delivered by technical professionals, the training empowers technicians to lead internal change that supports organisational sustainability goals.

This training is open to technicians, technical managers, leaders and specialists employed at a UK higher education and research institute, who are motivated to champion sustainable laboratory practices within their organisation.

The in-person sessions combine presentations, group discussions, and interactive activities to encourage practical learning.

The programme combines practical guidance, best practice examples and discussion across five key areas of laboratory sustainability covering:

• Sustainable laboratory management

• Rethinking purchasing

• Waste reduction strategies

• Energy efficiency and equipment management (BEMS & Utilities)

• Influencing change within technical environments through improvements to procurement and tendering
