The Camões Centre hosts the Portuguese author Hélia Correia and the translator Amanda Hopkinson, who will talk about the book Lisbon Tales (Oxford University Press, 2019), an anthology of short stories which will be launched soon.
These stories describe the influences that Arabic, African, and European culture and history have had on everyday life in Lisbon. This important collection includes authors from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, and Portugal. Eça de Queirós, Fernando Pessoa, José Saramago, Kalaf Ângelo, Orlanda Amarilis and Hélia Correia herself are among the represented authors. In this session, Catarina Fouto (KCL) and João Silvestre (KCL) will talk with Hélia Correia and Amanda Hopkinson about the translation of the stories and about the representation of Lisbon within the tales.
