In 2020 the annual bilingual poetry reading will celebrate the life and work of the poet João Cabral de Melo Neto (born 1920, Recife, Brazil). Students, teachers and special guests of the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies will perform poems by the author. In the intimate setting of the chapel of King’s College London, we will also listen to poems by writers across the Portuguese-speaking world whose subjects relate to the poetic themes of Joãozinho Cabral.

English translations for every poem read in Portuguese will be supplied as handouts.

The performance will be followed by a drinks reception.
