Join Bayo Omoboriowo, award-winning Nigerian photojournalist and documentary photographer for an informal and inspiring discussion about his creative work – questions are welcome.

 

Bayo is currently the Chief Official Photographer to the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, a position he has held since May 2015. He is also an MA student in Arts and Cultural Management at the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King's.

 

His work is featured in the Intertwined: Fashion, Textile and Heritage in Nigeria photography exhibition located in the Arcade, Bush House on Strand campus – where this gathering will also be held. The exhibition is a collaborative creative project Bayo and King’s College London researchers, Dr Roberta Comunian and Dr Lauren England (Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries, King's) Dr Eka Ikpe (African Leadership Centre, King's) and Dr Ananya Kabir (Department of English, King's). In 2019, the researchers were awarded a King’s Together Seed Fund grant for the Africa Fashion Futures project which provides some of the academic content and enquiry explored within the exhibition.

This event is part of King’s African Leadership Centre’s annual Africa Week programme.

Artist Bio:

Bayo’s photographs have been featured in art exhibitions and published in national and international publications. Bayo’s awards include the Sundance Institute Film Award, NACCP Climate Change Photo Contest, MTN Afrinolly film competition and The Future Awards for the Most Creative Artist of the Year in Nigeria. He is also the author of several books, including Discover Nigeria, an extensive photo and text documentary on Nigeria’s people, places, and culture. In 2021, Discover Nigeria set a Guinness World Record for the world's largest photobook.

 

Passionate about education and creative empowerment, he is the founder of Unabashed Africa, a platform that upskills and creates opportunities for photographers across Africa.
