Speaker: Friederike Bubenzer, Senior Project Leader, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation

The Peacebuilding Interventions Programme at the Cape Town-based Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR); has been one of the organisations at the forefront of linking the fields of mental health and psycho-social support (MHPSS) and peacebuilding. Without addressing both the MHPSS and peacebuilding needs of conflict-affected individuals and communities in an integrated way from the outset of programme conceptualisation; neither field is likely to prevent the continued scourge of direct and indirect violence which continues to ravage the world.

Using an innovative and highly participatory methodology, ‘co-creation’ workshops in Zimbabwe, Kenya and South Africa brought together practitioners from both fields to jointly imagine and articulate what such an approach might look like and what individuals regard as the opportunities and challenges of using and operationalising such an approach in their specific contexts. Data collected from these workshops has provided rich insight into the concrete needs of practitioners to implement an integrated approach.

In this webinar, Frederike will be sharing insights into the methodology, outcomes to date and intended future steps of this project.
