The Middle East Scientific Institute for Security (MESIS) in Jordan and the UK’s Nuclear Security Culture Consortium are holding a three-day workshop on Insider Threats and Security Culture. It is sponsored by the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

This workshop offers an introduction to nuclear security, with a focus on insider threats and security culture, and covering some of the following topics.

• Nuclear and radiological threats, with a focus on insiders;
• Physical protection, preventive measures, human reliability and vetting;
• Security culture, including its assessment and enhancement; and
• Nuclear security leadership.

The workshop is especially aimed at participants who either work in an operational or regulatory capacity with nuclear and radioactive materials in the Middle East. It may also be of interest to Arab government officials and security experts working on nuclear issues to exchange insights and best practices.

This three-day event will involve a mix of seminars, group discussions, real-life case studies and a tabletop exercise focused on a hypothetical nuclear facility.

Sessions will be delivered by a combination of nuclear technical experts with a background in industry or regulation, as well as academic experts from King’s College London.

Participants will receive a series of pre-recorded and introductory video lectures ahead of the course, as well as an electronic copy of all materials. They should ideally have least five years of professional experience and a basic knowledge of nuclear security. Sessions will be conducted in English and Arabic.
