The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) are delighted to be hosting the first ever Online 1 Day Psychiatry Autumn School on Wednesday 27^th October 2021.

 

This event is designed for students who will have just commenced Year 12. The programme will include lectures, seminars and interactive sessions with psychiatrists which will enable students to get an insight into the career of a psychiatrist and the varied subspecialties of psychiatry.

 

We are looking for students who may be interested in concepts of the mind and mental illness but may not have thought of psychiatry as a career pathway to fulfil these interests. Students may, for example, have expressed an interest in psychology but not have a clear understanding about the different types of careers that are available to help people with mental illness.

 

Venue: All content will be delivered online via Zoom.

Date: Wednesday 27^th October 2021

Cost: This is a free summer school to ensure there are no financial barriers to attendance.

Number of places offered: We are offering two places to each school. We will also offer two places on the waiting list to each school.

 

Student criteria for a place: 

• The student should have a good academic record and have achieved high grades at GCSE.
• The student does not need to have previously expressed a desire to study medicine but should be capable of reaching the entrance requirements for a medical degree. 
• The student should be taking A level Chemistry and another science (or be able to change their choices to these requirements).
• The student will require a signed consent letter from a parent or guardian to participate in this event.

• At this point, we are only accepting applications from schoolteachers who can nominate students that meet the above criteria.
