In this talk, Alastair Gornall (Assistant Professor, Singapore University of Technology and Design) will discuss the main arguments of his recently published book Rewriting Buddhism, which is freely available to download at uclpress.com/buddhism. The book explores one of the most significant periods in premodern Sri Lanka’s cultural and religious history. This era of monastic reform was distinguished in particular by the production of a vast amount of Pali literature that reshaped monastic intellectual life in Sri Lanka and later in Southeast Asia too.
