Portraits of Iran: identity struggle in an age of social media, globalisation and international sanctions
This panel discussion, part of the Portraits of Iran exhibition at King's College London, will consider the challenges that many Iranians face as they push against the strictures of the state and media censorship imposed upon its citizens by the Iranian government.
Specifically, it will consider how a new generation is finding ways to bypass such censorship, including the massive government-imposed firewall that is intended to 'protect' Iranian citizens from western influences. After the discussion, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and look around the exhibition. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
The panel speakers are:
Brian Kavanagh (photographer) – Lecturer in Digital Innovation, Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College London
Atoosa Sepehr – Iranian food author and photographer
Elisa Oreglia – Lecturer in Global Digital Culture, Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College London
Portraits of Iran is an exhibition of photography by Dr Brian Kavanagh, Lecturer in Digital Innovation at King's College London and is supported by the university’s Culture team and the Department of Digital Humanities, part of Faculty of Arts & Humanities at King's.
