Patient and public involvement (PPI) while ubiquitous in healthcare research, is also troublesome, without any clear consensus of how PPI might best operate in healthcare contexts. How we understand this involvement imperative has significant implications for everyone involved in the provision of care, from service users, to carers, to professionals and to government.
In this seminar Dr Ewen Speed, a senior lecturer in Medical Sociology in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex will explore some of the complexity involved in trying ‘to do’ patient and public involvement. Ewen will highlight some of the complexity that needs to be addressed (but is often pushed into the background) in making involvement meaningful for all.
These seminars are open to anyone interested in implementation and improvement. There is no need to book a place.
Next seminar: Tuesday 2 April 2019, 4pm to 5pm Small Lecture Theatre, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience
