To celebrate LGBT History month Queer@King’s is doing something a little different. In collaboration with the KCL Chaplaincy, we are taking over the Chapel at the Strand and hosting ‘The Lesbian Hymns’ for students and staff to enjoy.

Finalist of the KCL ‘Modern Classicisms’ competition, The Lesbian Hymns by King’s PhD candidate Rioghnach Sachs are choral hymns based on sources from the ancient world which explore lesbian desire in relation to the gods. Sachs set both these narratives in English verse to original Anglican-style hymn chants, including organ accompaniment and eight-part choral harmony. Sachs will introduce each of her hymns and expand on themes such as same-sex marriage, gender fluidity and love that the performances explore.
