'Out of Time: the temporal politics of queer postcoloniality.'In recent years, queer theory has given us a rich literature on temporality, exploring the complex relations between time, affect and structural change. Yet in emanating mainly from the North Atlantic and responding to its preoccupations, this literature has effectively bracketed the question of place.
This talk explores how time and space matter differently in the queer postcolony, where the dialectic produced by the opposition between two statements—'homosexuality is Western' and 'homophobia is Western'—produces novel spatiotemporal forms of queer politics.
