Drawing on research findings from a 2-year, empirical study of chemical weapons (CW) use in Syria, this scenario-based event will provide participants with an insight into the challenges policy-makers faced as they sought to respond to chemical weapons use in Syria.

Participants will play the role of a fictional National Security Council advising the President of the United States. They will be presented with an initial scenario of CW use and asked to make a series of decisions in a context where time is short and information incomplete. Each decision will shape how the scenario evolves. Throughout the event, participants will grapple with problems of strategy and decision-making as they seek to engineer a satisfactory outcome.

This event is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences and open to students and the general public. Refreshments will be provided.
