The Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, King’s College London, Cine Latino and the Embassy of Peru in the United Kingdom proudly present the screening of “Wiñaypacha” (Eternity).

This is the deeply moving story of Willka and Phaxsi, an elderly couple living in a remote part of the Peruvian Andes. Abandoned by their son Antuco who moved to the city a long time ago, they live at five thousand meters altitude in the middle of snow-capped mountain ranges, facing the merciless passage of time. Every day they pray to their gods, tend their land and eat what Mother Earth offers them. And every day they wonder: when will their son finally come to rescue them?

This award-winning Peruvian drama by talented filmmaker Óscar Catacora tells a story of abandonment, both of the elderly and of their remote rural environment, featuring a stunning cinematography. It is the first Peruvian film shot entirely in the indigenous Aymara language. The screening, with English subtitles, will be followed by a panel talk featuring experts on Peruvian culture and film, hosted by Peruvian filmmaker Karoline Pelikan and Dr. Elisa Sampson Vera Tudela, Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies at King’s College London.

The screening is free. Due to a limited number of seats, we recommend booking your ticket(s) in advance. This event will be followed by a panel discussion.
