We have explored the possibility of using social media data to reliably map the smells and sounds of entire cities. For both Barcelona and London, we collect geo-referenced picture tags from Flickr and Instagram. We match those tags with the words in newly created smell and sound dictionaries. Thus, we are able to map the entire smellscapes and soundscapes of more than ten cities around the world. This can assist the creation of urban restorative experiences.
