Recent events have had a chilling effect on social scientific research, particularly that focused on social justice. Combined with increasing challenges and hurdles to immigration and border crossing, many doctoral students and early career researchers may have fewer opportunities to present their work, to network with their peers, and to receive feedback and acclaim, compared with their more senior colleagues.
For this reason, the King’s School for Government is hosting a series of five Solidarity Symposia, each one day, focused on different topic areas relating to social justice. These will be one day events, topped-and-tailed by keynotes by leading academics, but with much of the time being spent on talks by PhD students and early career researchers (ECRs). Each symposium event will be hybrid, hosted in-person in London and online.
The topics and dates for the Symposia are:
- 15 January 2026 - Fighting the Climate Crisis
- 19 March 2026 - Safeguarding Democracy
- 14 May 2026 - Staying Focused on International Development
- 9 July 2026 - Improving Outcomes for Children and Young People
- 17 September 2026 - Promoting Equality and Equity
The best talk on each day will win a prize of £500, determined by a panel of SfG academics. Those interested in presenting should submit an abstract of their research, a brief description of their 10-minute talk, and indicate whether they intend to attend in-person or remotely.
