Smart Phenylalanine monooxygenase: a biomarker of disease susceptibility in Parkinson’s and motor neurone diseases?

Speaker: Dr Glyn Steventon, Managing Director of ADMET Solutions ltd

The discovery of the S-oxidation polymorphism as a biomarker of disease susceptibility for Parkinson’s and motor neurone diseases in the late ’80s then spurred a race to identify the enzyme(s) responsible. The story of the role of phenylalanine 4-monooxygenase in the S-oxidation polymorphism is worthy of the “Game of Thrones”.
