Our next King’s College London Centre of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution Open Forum will be held on Thursday 22nd February 2024. It will explore the different techniques by which social value can be embedded in the procurement and delivery of construction and infrastructure projects so as to create long-term impact for citizens and communities. Speakers will provide in-depth analysis and case studies from the UK and internationally.

The social value agenda is developing rapidly, but it is often criticised for being undelivered or
undeliverable. Our expert speakers will explore: how social value outcomes can be and have been meaningfully delivered in the UK and across Europe; the legal and commercial levers that are available for social value; the use of contract management and measurement methods; how to incentivise the supply chain to deliver social value requirements, and how to deal with non-delivery or under-delivery during contract performance; how the domestic courts perceive social value requirements in construction projects and what potential they create for a new frontier of litigation.

The conference chair will be Visiting Professor Nicholas Gould of Fenwick Elliott, and our
eminent speakers will include:

  • Samantha Butler, The UK Cabinet Office
  • Martyn Traynor, UK Crown Representative for SMEs
  • Matthew Grenier, Housing Association Charitable Trust
