Temporal ambiguity in inter-organisational collaboration processes

Online

Join us for our third session in the Better Health & Care webinar series, where we will explore the pivotal but often overlooked role of temporal ambiguity (uncertainty around when and how future goals will be achieved) in shaping the progress and outcomes of inter-organisational research collaborations.

Drawing from an in-depth study of a partnership aimed at translating genetics research into clinical practice, this presentation will examine how early tolerance for temporal ambiguity enabled collaborators to align the project with their own objectives and timelines, fostering resource mobilisation and commitment. However, as funding bodies demanded faster progress through strict quarterly reporting, underlying differences in collaborators' expectations surfaced, ultimately leading to the project's closure without achieving its intended goals.

The session will delve into how managing temporal dynamics can significantly impact the success or failure of collaborative research efforts in healthcare. This talk will be of interest to researchers, healthcare practitioners, policymakers, and anyone involved in or curious about research collaboration and innovation in health and care settings.
