The shift in the squiggle: Direct DNA methylation sequencing

Speaker: Dr Robert Lowe, Blizard Institute, QMUL

Host: Michelle Holland

Abstract:

With the advent of third-generation sequencing technology, it is now possible to assay DNA and RNA modifications directly. In this talk, I will discuss the methods we have developed to determine DNA methylation using Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers. I will provide a brief overview of how Nanopore sequencing works and the theory behind detecting DNA modifications directly. I will then showcase a project from the lab in which we have used this technology to profile 6-methyladenine in the ciliate Tetrahymena themophila during growth.
